"If you are not adding value then you are adding cost"

Operational Excellence is about identifying what customers value and working to eliminate non value adding activities.

Working with two key principles of Continuous Improvement and Respect for People we will help you eliminate waste and develop:

  • Better customer focus
  • Shorter lead times
  • Faster response to changing markets
  • Higher quality
  • Higher morale
  • Reduced environmental impact

Our approach is based on the success of Toyota – the largest and most profitable car manufacturer in the world. Toyota uses Operational Excellence as a strategic weapon, applying it to all areas of its business, not just manufacturing. Where most car companies take between two and four years to develop a car Toyota does it in just one!

Is this Lean?

The world started to wake up to the success of the Toyota Production System in the early 90’s following the publication of the books “The Machine that Changed the World” and “Lean Thinking” by Womack and Jones. There followed a tide of “lean” projects which, along with 6 sigma have dominated operations improvement for the last 20 years.

But few “lean” projects deliver what they promise due to a lack of understanding from managers. All too often the lean tools are applied but companies fail to realise the importance of “Respect for People” in Toyota’s success. Without engaging employees in the challenges, empowering them to make the change and supporting them to deliver continuous improvements any progress is likely to be short-lived.

So yes – we do mean “Lean” - Real Lean not Imitation Lean. We will work with you to help your organisation develop your own style of TPS, using the tools where appropriate but more importantly applying the principles that go with them.

Rapid Progress

Continuous Improvement is just that – continuous – and to create an organisation where improvement is a way of life, not just a project will take some time. But we don’t have to wait long to see the benefits.

Two important principles are learning through doing and moving rapidly to implement solutions once they are agreed. Rather than spending time in a classroom learning the theory the emphasis is placed on gaining knowledge through experience – and what better experience can you have than improving your own business.

This process quickly builds momentum and with the new skills being learned you will soon be able to continue the improvements without external support.
